Federation of Minnesota's 100th Year Anniversary
2006 marks the 100th Anniversary of the Advertising Federation of
Minnesota (Ad Fed).
In its early form, The Ad Fed (first known as the Minneapolis Publicity
Club) was created to promote the business and civic value of the
Minneapolis area. 100 years later, Ad Fed is celebrating the Twin
Cities' market strength and the global impact we have all made through
leading brands, creative advertising campaigns and sound business
practices.
The Advertising Federation of Minnesota was one of the first organized
advertising clubs in the U.S. under the American Advertising Federation
(AAF), which formed in 1905 when local advertising clubs across the
country realized that to be effective it was imperative that they
join together into a unified association.
Through the years, Ad Fed
has consistently gathered influential business leaders to promote
Minnesota, protect the integrity of the advertising profession, and
enhance the quality and effectiveness of marketing communications
in general. Ad Fed initiatives have included the promotion of strong
creative across disciplines, programming and awards shows, social
gatherings, the fight against unfair advertising and ad tax legislation,
public service and community development, education relations, professional
development, and much more.
Worth Noting: The Advertising Federation
of Minnesota was the first club in the nation to form a Vigilance
Committee in 1911, protecting public interests and the advertising
profession by investigating false or misleading claims and seeking
corrective action. The principals established by the committee became
the foundation of the nation's first Better Business Bureau. More
on this and other nourishing morsels of historical facts await you
at our Gala event.
The Gala - March 9, 2006: The centennial
celebration will culminate in a gala event on March 9, 2006 with
an expected attendance of over 300 of our industry leaders - dedicated
to the advances of the business of advertising - a vital and essential
part of the American economy and culture. We will showcase an historic
timeline featuring the intriguing evolution of the Ad Fed through
changing media formats and business conditions, and (more importantly)
celebrating the consistently-rich and creamy brands and advertising
grown in our fine state over the past 100 years. |
